The Green March movement
Fighting Political Corruption in the Dominican Republic
The present study has been conducted to explore the fight against political corruption and impunity in the Dominican Republic by the Green March movement. We have examined the factors leading to the mobilization of the Green March movement as well as the strategies and tactics used by the movement. The study fills a gap in literature by identifying factors or structural opportunities leading to the mobilization of the Green March movement in the political context of the Dominican government. In addition, little has been said about what strategies and tactics have been used by social movements in the fight against corruption around the world. The- refore, we have explored the process of the Green March move- ment against political corruption in the Dominican Republic and examined the experiences of the civic groups joining the Green March movement.
This study is the first scientific work produced in the Domi- nican Republic about the Green March movement fighting political corruption in the country and the primary research paper to apply political opportunity theory to a social move- ment in the Dominican Republic. The results of this study will provide insights into the political system and public institutions of the country regarding the application of new concepts and processes relating to the fight against politi- cal corruption and impunity in the Dominican Republic.
